Rough Textured Skin

Rough and textured skin can be caused by a number of factors:

  • Sun damage (photo aging)
  • Smoking & environmental pollutions
  • Chemicals in skin care products
  • Genetics
  • Acne scarring
  • Over exfoliation or harsh beauty treatments

The first step to Improving your skin is to reverse these risk factors where possible. Please, always be gentle with your skin – its ALIVE!

Exfoliation & Home skin care

It is my personal opinion that using natural chemical exfoliants are always better than using harsh methods such as microbeeds and even dermabrasion. The healing responses that are stimulated by using these methods can cause significant problems either immediately or in the future.

I have many clients with rough skin that my first recommendation is they stop exfoliating in the manner they are and we review their skin in 4 weeks.

However – people love to exfoliate and have that shiny smooth skin – so what can they do at home?

I love to use a once weekly PCA Skin Retexturise Pumpkin therapeutic Mask – its naturally based and packs a punch – so be careful to follow the instructions!

A Good Quality medical Grade retinol will increase the skin cell turn over leaving baby soft young skin on the surface. PCA Skin have a number of targeted retinols to suit your desired outcome including one specifically designed for sensitive skin.

PCA Skin also have an incredible Resurfacing serum to use daily for gentle exfoliation whilst calming the skin and promoting healing – doing exactly what we should when we are exfoliating!

SPF SPF SPF! Its an absolute must to reduce photo damaged skin. You want a good quality zinc oxide or titanium oxide based SPF that is not loaded full of harsh chemicals. My favourite in summer is the PCA Skin Weightless Protection SPF 45 (endorsed by the skin cancer foundation) and in the winter I like to use the PCA Skin Hydrator Plus Broad spectrum 30 (when my skin needs that little bit extra moisture).

Chemical peels

As we age our turn over of skin cells slows down – this means we don’t produce as many new skins cells and the old dead skin cells are not shed as easily and they can form a thicker layer of “stratum corneum” which can appear dull and rough.

Chemical peels (which can vary from a “no peel peel” to an intense peel are designed to significantly reduced the build up of dead skin that is on the surface leaving beautiful fresh glowing skin visible.

By doing this we also stimulate the skin to produce new skin cells as part of the healing response!

Peels can help improve:

  • Skin tone
  • Texture
  • Clarity
  • Brightness & glow
  • Reduce pigmentation including sun damage & melasma

Down time can vary depending on peel chosen and is between 0 – 10 days of flaking.

Illumifacial

The illumifacial is becoming a firm favourite; combining a gentle fruit acid peel with IPL technology to significantly improve texture while treating:

  • Acne / Rosacea
  • Pigmentation (NOT melasma)
  • Clarity & Tone
  • Red Vessels
  • Stimulating collagen / plumpness and firmness

Its called the Air Brush facial for a reason!

Radio Frequency Microneedling

A hugely popular treatment that increased in it notoriety after the famous “Judy Murray treatment”.

RF microneedling uses ultrafine needles penetrate the skin to different depths whilst simultaneously releasing radiofrequency (RF) energy to heat the skin in a controlled manner, stimulating a wound healing response leading to the production of new collagen and elastin.

Improve a variety of different skin conditions such as open pores, scars, wrinkles and skin laxity.

  • Smooths & even acne scars & bumps.
  • Helps smooth wrinkles & fine lines.
  • Reducing the appearance of stretch marks
  • Boosts collagen, improves skin texture & tightens the skin.
  • Suitable for all skin types and colour’s.

This treatment has minimal to no down time – which makes it popular for clients that have work commitments.

Our patients love how natural their skin looks and the results get better and better over time-you literally start aging in reverse!

– providing mind blowing results!

This is a surprisingly comfortable treatment some can feel like they have had a sunburn afterwards. Many people research and are worried about the down time – this is NOT CO2 resurfacing which can look quite horrific afterwards! – down time usually consists of some mild to moderate redness, a sense of sun burn, and some dry and mild to moderate flaking over the following 7days. Some people have minimal down time and are ok to go to work as normal – each person differs.
