Will my face peel like a snake?
the simple answer is no! PCA are powerful peels with minimal down time. Obviously this will vary from person to person but most people will experience flaking or mild peeling (think post sun burn). On occasion clients might not notice any peeling – dont be alarmed you are still shedding away and you will have a fab results
How long before a big event should I book my peel?
the answer is – come and have your consultation as soon as possible!!
typically i would say 2 weeks prior to the event – however each client is different and some may require a pre treatment before their peel, other may require a number of peels to achieve their desired outcomes depending on their skin concerns.
A medifacial can be booked a week to a couple of days before hand.
Will I need to book time off work?
You may want to the first time you have a peel just so you know what to expect. However many people go to work as normal as skin can look like a dermatitis or eczema – and keeping it well moisturised – you will be surprised how people often don’t mention anything
What is the precare before a peel?
Prep skin
In the weeks leading up to your PCA peel, you’ll want to properly prep your skin. This primarily involves the use of care products, like moisturizers and sunscreens.
Don’t Exfoliate or Wax
Avoid exfoliation, including scrubs, microdermabrasion, and waxing, at least one week before your chemical peel procedure. These activities can irritate or increase the risk of uneven skin texture after the peel.
Stop Using Retinol and Other Active Ingredients
If you’re using products that contain retinoids, glycolic acids, or salicylic acid, discontinue use about five to seven days before your appointment. These ingredients can make your skin more sensitive and increase the risk of irritation during the peel.
Avoid excess sun exposure and No sunbeds in the running weeks (at least 2) to your peel to prevent complications like hyperpigmentation. Sunburnt skin is a no for a chemical peel treatment, so stay sun-safe.
Stay hydrated.
It helps to be well hydrated before (and after!) your peel as it will help with the tightness. Additionally, having proper hydration will help your skin recover more quickly after the treatment.
What is the aftercare following a peel?
For two days post-procedure or seven days after receiving medium depth peel
-Stay as cool as possible. Overheating internally can cause hyperpigmentation.
-Do not put the treated area directly into a hot shower spray.
-Do not use hot tubs, steam rooms, or saunas.
-Do not go swimming.
-Do not participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration.
-Do not use loofahs or other means of mechanical exfoliation.
-Do not direct a hair dryer onto the treated area.
-Do not apply ice or ice water to the treated area.
General guidelines after receiving a PCA SKIN® superficial treatment:
- After receiving a PCA SKIN® professional treatment, you should not necessarily expect to “peel.” However, light flaking in a few localized areas for several days is typical. Most patients who undergo these treatments have residual redness for approximately one to 12 hours post-procedure.
- As with all peels and treatments, it is recommended that makeup not be applied
the day of treatment, as it is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight and not to wash or apply anything to the face until the morning; however, makeup may be applied 15 minutes after the treatment if absolutely necessary.
-To minimize side effects and maximize results, use The Post-Procedure Solution for three to five days or until flaking has resolved.
-If the skin feels tight, apply ReBalance for normal to oily skin types or Silkcoat® Balm for drier skin types to moisturize as needed. For maximum hydration, you can apply Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Serum under ReBalance or Silkcoat® Balm.
- Moisturizer should be applied at least twice a day, but can be applied more frequently for hydration and to decrease the appearance of flaking.
-It is recommended that other topical, over-the-counter medications, or alpha hydroxy acid products not be applied to the skin seven days post-procedure, as they may cause irritation.
-It is recommended to delay use of tretinoin, Retin-A®, Differin®, Renova®, Tazorac®, Avage®, EpiDuo®, or Ziana® five days prior post-procedure or seven days when receiving MD Peel (CCI). Consult your physician before temporarily discontinuing use of any prescription medications.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. Use Active Protection Body Broad Spectrum SPF 30, Weightless Protection Broad Spectrum SPF 45, Daily Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50+, Hydrator Plus Broad Spectrum SPF 30, Active Broad Spectrum SPF 45, or Sheer Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 45 for broad spectrum UV protection.
-Do not go to a tanning bed for at least two weeks post-procedure. This practice should be discontinued due to the increased risk of skin cancer and signs of aging and furthermore it will reduce risk of developing hyperpigmentation
-Do not pick or pull on any loosening or peeling skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.
-Do not have another treatment until your clinician advises you to do so. Ensure if you have beauty treatments planned elswhere you check with your practitioner the gap is sufficient to avoid complications and over stressing the skin.
